Video Summary
Dr. Lori Rudy, Associate Editor of the Journal of Neuroscience Nursing (JNN), presented practical guidance on developing and publishing nursing scholarship. She encouraged nurses to start with questions and projects they already know—such as research, quality improvement, evidence-based practice, literature reviews, or presentations—and not to assume their work is unworthy of publication. Authors should identify a clear message and audience, use a similar published article as a model, and carefully follow JNN’s author guidelines. Before submission, they should proofread, obtain all authors’ approval, disclose funding and conflicts of interest, and meet requirements for article structure, references, tables, and figures. Manuscripts are submitted through Editorial Manager and undergo an initial editorial check, peer review, and an editorial decision. For revisions, authors should respond respectfully to every editor and reviewer comment, explain any disagreements, and indicate where changes were made. Rudy recommended seeking mentors, joining writing groups, consulting editors, and volunteering as a peer reviewer. Once published, authors should promote their work by sharing the article link. The webinar emphasized that editors want to support authors and that disseminating nursing work advances the profession.
